What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is a colloquial term for the day after Thanksgiving and is one of the busiest shopping days in the United States. It is also believed to be the first day of the Christmas shopping season. To attract shoppers, several retail chains in the U.S offer huge discounts and limited-time offers on a wide range of products.
The day derives its name from a term used by police officers in the late 1960s to describe the chaos created by a huge influx of tourists who began their holiday season shopping then. The police had to work round the clock to deal with traffic jams, accidents, thefts, and more such issues.
