What is National Cancer Awareness Day?
In India, National Cancer Awareness Day is observed on 7th November to spread awareness about cancer, its treatment, and its symptoms. The National Cancer Awareness Day coincides with the birth anniversary of Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie for her significant contributions to the fight against cancer.
According to the WHO, cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in the world. The National Cancer Awareness Day was established by the then Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan in September 2014. On this day people are encouraged to head to government hospitals and municipal clinics for a free screening.
