India celebrates its Independence Day on the 15th of August, annually. The Indian independence movement began under the leadership of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who along with several other freedom fighters advocated non-violence and peaceful protests to eventually oust British rule on 15th August 1947.
Independence Day is celebrated with the National Flag hoisting, followed by the singing of the national anthem and cultural programs all over the country. The Prime Minister of India hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort and addresses the nation thereafter. On this day the people of the country are filled with a spirit of patriotism and reminisce about the courageous fight put up by the freedom fighters to set India free.
