Upsell and cross-sell campaigns are some of the oldest and most time-tested methods to increase orders and total value of your customers. When done right, your customers would be presented with compelling products to purchase from your brand that perfectly complement their tastes or past purchases.
Using DelightChat's WhatsApp marketing automation engine, you can now create upsell or cross-sell campaigns.
Such campaigns can be created based on 2 parameters:
- Products that a customer purchased (or did not purchase)
- If a product purchased by the customer belongs to a certain collection

Upsell & Cross-Sell Campaigns on WhatsApp
To create a custom marketing automation on WhatsApp, click on [Create New Automation] on the top right.
Here is the setup of the upsell campaign.
(1) Choose Event Trigger
- New Order
(2) Entry Condition
- Products in order > Contains any of > (Select the product)
If you want to setup a condition where an order contains Product 1 but does not contain Porduct 2, follow this:
- (All) of the below conditions match.
- Products in order > Contains any of > (Select the product)
- + Add condition
- Products in order > Contains none of > (Select the product)
(3) Exit condition
Not required for this campaign.
(4) Configure message
Choose a message sending delay based on your requirements. We recommend either
- go aggressive, make an offer 15-30 minutes after a purchase, or
- upsell a complementary product 6 hours after the purchase, or
- make an upsell after the customer receives the order, say 7 days after order is fulfilled or 10 days after order is placed

Resolve dynamic URL for CTA button
Choose "Static URL" for the CTA button and enter the final URL where you want to send your customer. This could be a product page or a collection page. You can include UTM parameters in the URL.
Configure the discount code
While you can always create a discount code in the Shopify admin and include it in the message, DelightChat can dynamically generate a discount code for you. Here's how:
